Pete Rubinas - Board of Education, District 2
As a stay-at-home father of four wonderful children who are or will be attending Chatham County public schools, I have an obvious personal interest in the quality of our public school system. That said, I am not running for a seat on the Chatham County School Board for the benefit of my own children. I am running because I feel very strongly that public education is a social justice issue. How we educate all of our children today is critical to our long-term success as a county, state and nation.
As a former auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers, I have a keen awareness for the link between good processes and good decision-making. Having attended numerous Board of Education meetings over the past two years, I believe my skill set will prove very useful on the Board.
As a Board of Education member, I will focus on improving our Board-level decision-making processes. For every important decision that comes before the Board, I will insist that we define the criteria we will use to make the decision, determine the data/information we need, evaluate the quality of the data we receive, and engage in respectful dialogue with relevant stakeholders before arriving at the best possible decision available at the time for all of our children.
While I cannot promise that everyone will agree with every decision the Board makes, I can promise that we will be able to easily explain our decisions – to the general public and to our own children – for having followed a thoughtful and logical decision-making process.
I believe we have many reasons to be proud of our school system today. With even better Board decision-making in the future, I believe we will have even more reason to be proud.
