Dr. Jim Crawford: Presidential Corruption

Aired on June 1, 2025 Sydney Sweeney leaked video
• Corruption, Abuse of Power, Emoluments

Corruption isn’t new to the office of the presidency but has reached an all-time high during the Trump administration. Historian Jim Crawford provides context by talking about the Declaration of Independence and the definitions of corruption this founding document guards against. Then he takes listeners through various scandals and abuses of power including nepotism, cronyism, presidential pardons, violations of the emoluments clause, the use of crypto currency to buy favors, the use of emergency powers to forgo votes by Congress, and more.
Crawford was born into a blue collar and agricultural clan in rural Pennsylvania. He was the first in his family to graduate from college. After earning his PhD from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, he taught US and World History at several universities in the piedmont of North Carolina for several decades. He served as chairman of the Chatham County board of commissioners, and currently serves as trustee for Central Carolina Community College. He is a firm believer in American democracy and trusts that the constitution will hold firm now as it has in past crises despite the broken, distempered electorate.
