What office are you running for?

Chatham County Sheriff

Who are you?

I am a Father, Husband, Christian, Coach, and a friend. I have been married to my wonderful wife Amanda for 20 years and we have four children. I have been in law enforcement since 1994. I am currently a State Agent with the NC DPS as a Probation/Parole Officer, gang investigator, general instructor, gang instructor, pepper spray instructor, firearms instructor, and assigned to Project Safe Neighborhood- Randolph County.

Why are you running?

As a father and an experienced law enforcement officer, I can see where things need to be changed. I know that the citizens are not being protected and served with the massive amount of vacancies. I see the epidemic that is killing people and nothing is being done until it’s election time. Drugs are running rampant in our schools, and there hasn’t been any proactive enforcement. I know things can be better and I will make Chatham County the jewel of North Carolina again.

What will you do for your constituents if elected?

I will provide the services that they deserve. I will put more deputies on the roads so the response times to calls for service will not be up to two hours. I will establish a jail diversion program for substance abuse and mental health subjects. By doing this, I am hoping to provide a long term solution for addicts. I will establish a multi-agency partnership to fight the drug epidemic in Chatham County. The Sheriff’s Office will be cutting edge as it comes to investigations and service to the people that we will serve. Training of our staff will be second to none, and the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office will not be a training ground for other agencies any longer.

What office are you running for?

Sheriff of Chatham County

Who are you?

I am Sheriff Mike Roberson and I have lived in Chatham County my whole life. I met my wife here in the first grade. We have two grown children who were also raised in the Chatham County school system. We love our home and believe we live in the best place in the world! I have served as a firefighter, paramedic, juvenile officer, jail administrator, and Chief Deputy, and was unanimously appointed Sheriff in 2016. I was elected Sheriff by the residents of Chatham County in 2018 and 2nd Vice President of the NC Sheriff’s Association in 2022. I believe in treating everyone like family in the same situation, so I encourage my staff to serve the public with compassion, fairness, and respect in all they do. I have a proven record of leadership, community partnership, and achieving positive results with the help of the best staff in the state!

Why are you running?

We live in a great place. Chatham County boasts one of the lowest crime and incarceration rates in the state. The Sheriff’s Office operates within a diverse population and I want to ensure that we continue to hire, equip and train a professional workforce that is representative of the community we serve. Relationships cannot be built in a crisis, and I have worked diligently to build and maintain positive relationships with community members by listening and remaining open to new ideas. I love helping people and want to continue to serve this community I call home. I look forward to building on the successes we have already accomplished together and will continue to unite residents based on our shared goals and values. Rapid growth is coming and we have plans in place to rise to the challenges associated with it — our work is far from complete!

What will you do for your constituents if elected?

As Sheriff, I will continue to serve this community with my whole heart. Chatham County is my home, and I consider residents to be family. I will continue to listen to residents’ ideas and concerns in order to best meet their needs and expectations. I will continue to hire professional, compassionate staff members who set the bar for excellence in their field. Our goal is always to achieve the best possible result; we aren’t perfect, but we always strive to serve and lead with integrity, fairness, and teamwork. We will continue to uphold the constitutional rights of all, including victims and individuals accused of crime. We will also continue to increase both the value and availability of programming and services provided by our Office. We will continue to collaborate with other agencies, non-profit organizations, and stakeholders/ partners to implement strategies for a safe, healthy, and bright future for Chatham County.
